Photography

Photography is a hobby of mine that is near and dear to my heart. I originally started taking pictures in earnest back in 2014, when I inherited a camera of my grandmother's (a Nikon N2000). Since then my passion for the art has only grown. I have bonded with people over photography. both fellow photographers and people I have photographed as my subjects, I have learned all manner of different techniques for photographing, film development and printing, and digital photo manipulation, and photography has been there with me when little else was. I don't hesitate to say that, similar to music, photography has legitimately changed my life for the better.

I own many cameras, both still and motion picture. I do have a particular soft spot for videotape-based camcorders but, in all honesty, my pride and joy is my Nikon N2000. I grew up on film, in no small part influenced by my grandmother who, when she was still able, bought me things like a little point and shoot 35mm camera, so progressing to a larger SLR seemed only fitting, and it is almost poetic how it was an SLR of hers that I learned first on. Upon entering my junior year of high school, I immediately began taking full advantage of the darkroom I was granted access to as part of being enrolled in a photography course (and I would enroll in another photography course my senior year). I learned to do so many different and cool things, as well as developed film myself for the first time (which, looking back, I should not have been able to get away with as much as I did. I'm pretty sure my wildest exploit was intentionally developing color film as black and white and having the enlargements turn out halfway-decently). Sadly, however, my experimentation was cut short my senior year, thanks the pandemic.

Video camera-wise, I have had an interesting journey as well - I bought my first video camera, a JVC VHS-C camcorder, in early 2017, and my collection expanded from there. I have mostly MiniDV camcorders now, although one seems to have a bad video head. I also have a Digital8 camcorder, a Hi8 camcorder, and my aforementioned VHS-C camcorder. I used to use them for my YouTube videos as well, until I started using my Nikon D3300 instead.

I may post some pictures I've taken here in the future, although the biggest struggle will be maintaining a good balance between file size, resolution, and quality.
